The Makeblock Constructor I 3D Printer DIY Kit
is an open source 3D printer based on the Prusa i3 aluminum frame 3D printer kit. The original inspiration for this kit is from the open source community where there was a strong desire from the makers to use Makeblock Aluminium mechanical parts to build the frame for a 3D printer. With matching electronics (RAMPS1.4 shield, Arduino Mega2560 compatible board) and software (Slic3r,Printrun), you can get high-quality prints and extreme precision: XY Resolution: 0.1mm, Layer Resolution: 0.1-0.3mm. Since this kit is based on the popular Prusa design, there is a lot of community support and knowledge that would directly apply to this kit.

What does Constructor I feature?

Open source

  • Constructor I is open source. The electronics we are using are from the reference design, and is well-documented and supported by the community.
  • The aluminum frames, brackets and plates are based on Makeblock platform, which means strong extensibility so you can upgrade and modify your 3D printers or use mechanical parts to build some other robots without buying some extra parts or electronics.


  • 1.75mm PLA filament and a 0.4mm nozzle to get a layer resolution of 0.1~0.3mm.
  • XY platform is uses precise linear motion shaft (8mm, length 312mm), timing pulleys, the Z axis uses a thread rod to ensure the accuracy.


  • The Constructor I frame is made of anodized extruded aluminum. All beams, brackets, plates are based on aluminum material, and this provide a frame that is rigid and strong. These precision parts make the platform stronger, and and more accurate than the units that are made of lesser materials.

Easy to use

  • Detailed tutorials including teaching videos and assembly instruction help you complete the structure easily and are perfect for education.
  • Based on open source software, you can get started quickly with detailed instructions.
  • Gradienter is included for you to adjust the XY print platform to level easily.
